1. Difference Between Domain Name and Web Hosting

Beginners frequently confuse domain names with hosting. The relationship can be compared to renting a physical house:

  • 📍 Domain Name: The "mailing address" that allows visitors to find your house. Buying a domain alone does not provide disk storage.

2. What Parts Make Up a Domain Name?

A domain name is built from hierarchical layers. In blog.yoursite.com:

  • Subdomain: The prefix (blog), used to run isolated apps or sections (like stores, documentation, or portals).
  • SLD (Second-Level Domain): The main brand identity (yoursite).
  • TLD (Top-Level Domain): The extension (.com).

4. What is DNS Propagation and TTL?

DNS cache synchronization across global resolvers is called DNS Propagation. Most changes resolve in minutes to hours. However, local cache policies on select ISPs can drag global propagation out to 48 hours.
